Proportion
From WMAwiki
Definition
Proportion is the comparison of the size of your movements or length of your tempos to those of your opponent. To be in proportion means to be making movements that are of equal or lesser length than your opponent's.
Importance of Proportion
If you act in a greater proportion than your opponent, you give them the opportunity to complete their first action or begin a second one before you are able to deviate from your first intention. This leaves you open to attacks that complete in a lesser tempo, for example a stop-thrust, or other attacks that occur in half-tempo.
Uses
- The concept of proportion is discussed in Book I of Vincentio Saviolo's His Practise.
