Definition

An attack delivered with the point of a weapon with the intention of wounding through penetration.

Types of Thrust

Straight

Italian: stocotta

A thrust that begins and ends in the same guard without deviation. For example a thrust of third delivered by a fencer who is standing in third. In the Italian school a straight thrust generally refers to a thrust of third, as third is the standard waiting guard.

Reversed Point

Italian: punta riversa

A thrust delivered in fourth to the outside of the opponent's weapon.

Delivering a thrust in this way makes the weapon more difficult to deflect because the point is able to be angled in and around the opponent's defense.

Over-arm

Italian: imbrocotta

A descending thrust delivered in first over the opponent's sword arm, generally targeting the chest just to the inside of the arm.

The over-arm thrust is useful because it allows you to defend high and strike a lower target, and it is also difficult for your opponent to defend with his sword or offhand because of its proximity to his sword arm.
